The former Soviet cinema Vityaz, built in 1971, was named after the ship on which the Russian ethnographer Nikolas Mikluho-Maclay traveled to New Guinea.
The renovated neighbourhood center A Meeting Place Vityaz spans 17,610 square meters across three above-ground floors and one underground level. The center has retained its historical name: the original sign was restored using 3D scanning technology and recreated with modern materials.
The architectural concept for the reconstructed building was developed by renowned architect Amanda Levete and adapted by Russian designers. The neighbourhood center was built in compliance with BREEAM environmental standards, ensuring reduced environmental impact. The central glass facade not only allows ample natural light but also creates a sense of openness to the city. The space features a barrier-free design, complemented by a spacious rooftop terrace where residents can relax and unwind. During warmer months, the terrace will host sports training and leisure activities, from dancing and yoga to music concerts.
The neighbourhood center also features a food hall where visitors can enjoy diverse cuisines from around the world and participate in entertainment events. For students, the food hall will become a new spot to relax and socialize. Additionally, guests can dine at one of the center’s cafes and restaurants.
A Meeting Place Vityaz offers residents opportunities for educational and recreational activities for the whole family.
On the second floor, a cultural and leisure center will host classes, lectures, workshops, presentations, intellectual and literary clubs, and creative activities like painting, woodworking, jewelry making, and pottery. These events will appeal to both children and adults. A library with a wide selection of books across various genres will also be available.
The same floor will feature a space for sports activities, including squash, yoga, pilates, choreography, and aerial gymnastics. Entertainment events such as concerts, discos, and dance competitions will also be held here.
Now residents have more options for everyday entertainment and shopping right near their homes.
